What We did:
Team Leader for the Project Preparation Grant. Managed the development, submission and approval of a US$ 112M full-sized UNDP-supported, GEF-financed project called “Promoting Wildlife Conservation and Responsible Nature-Based Tourism for Sustainable Development in Vietnam”, approved for implementation in June 2023.
Objective:
The objective of the project is to promote the conservation of Vietnam's globally significant biodiversity and to support the development of responsible nature-based tourism. The project aims to enhance the protection of key wildlife species and their habitats (including the silver-backed chevrotain, black-shanked douc, southern white-cheeked gibbon, black hatinh langur, crested argus, Cao Van Sung bent-toed gecko and green sea turtle), as well as reduce illegal wildlife trade, and promote sustainable land use practices. Additionally, the project seeks to promote the development of sustainable tourism certifications and standards in Phong Nha-Ke Bang and Nui Chua national parks, encourage Public-Private-Partnerships around protected areas, while deploying innovative financial tools and mechanisms supporting tourism entrepreneurship within local communities and women-owned businesses. The project also focuses on strengthening the capacity of government agencies and enable real-time decision making through business intelligence and analytics, as well as engage civil society organizations, and local communities to manage and benefit from sustainable wildlife conservation and tourism activities.
