What We Did: Undertook a consultative and comprehensive review of all final project deliverables and achievements against the end-of-project targets in the Project Results Framework, using a mixed methods approach, while engaging with implementing and executing agencies, implementing partners, diverse stakeholders and downstream beneficiaries, as well as the private sector to document the project’s return on investment. Documented a suite of recommendations for the future design of similar projects within the UNDP and GEF pipeline.
Objective: The objective of the US$ 27M “Developing and Implementing the National Framework on Access to and Benefit Sharing of Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge” project is to establish a comprehensive legal and institutional framework for access to and benefit sharing of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge in China, and at the sub-regional level in Yunnan, Guangxi, and Hunan. The project aims to achieve this through a range of interventions, including the development of national legislation and regulations, the establishment of a national ABS clearinghouse, and the capacity building of relevant stakeholders, including indigenous and local communities. The project also aims to strengthen the implementation of ABS measures at the local and national levels, and to support the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and associated traditional knowledge in China. Ultimately, the goal of the project is to contribute to the equitable sharing of benefits derived from the use of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge, while ensuring their conservation and sustainable use.
