What We Did: As Team Leader, Interamna carried out a final project evaluation for a US$ 57M high-visibility flagship GEF forest restoration and livelihood project in Pakistan's West Himalayan coniferous, scrub and riverine forests. Undertook field and HQ-level consultations in three Pakistani provinces, and applied quantitative and qualitative evaluation techniques.
Objective: The objective of the UNDP-supported, GEF-financed “Sustainable Forest Management to Secure Multiple Benefits in High Conservation Value Forests” project is to promote sustainable forest management in high conservation value forests to achieve multiple environmental, social and economic benefits. This includes improving the livelihoods of local communities, conserving biodiversity, mitigating climate change, and enhancing the capacity of forest institutions to manage forests sustainably. The project also aims to address the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation, such as unsustainable land use practices and illegal logging, through the implementation of a range of interventions and policy reforms.
